Economic development and regional integration are prerequisites for a country’s overall economic and regional growth.
Nevertheless, like many other developing countries, Bangladesh is facing a problem of unsustainable economic growth.
A lack of organized development planning, along with unstable and insecure employment sectors, have created poverty
prone underdeveloped and disintegrated regions in the country. Regional development is a means of reducing regional
disparities by supporting employment and wealth generating economic activities across different regions in an
economy. It involves a study of a region as a structural or dynamic system, with the interaction of different social and
cultural units. This study centers on developing a generic methodology to enable such a regional analysis using short-
run econometric methods.
